FUND RAISING
Running a troop is very expensive.
Most of the $30.00 collected for dues every year goes to the
council for registration and Boy's Life. What is left does not
even scratch the surface of the troop's financial needs. Therefore
the need for fundraising.
We have two fundraisers that we participate
in annually. They are Old Bill's Fun Run and Old West Days.
With the funds earned at Old Bill's Fun Run and Old West Days
we are able to maintain our inventory and offset the costs of
activities the troop offers. Our Troop in not currently in charge
of organizing Fair Parking, but we are looking into other activities
through which Scouts could earn money to use for summer camp,
high adventure and, in some cases, uniform.
The troop shares ownership of a cotton
candy machine, which we use in a booth along with whatever else
we decide to sell (typically, pop and popcorn) one day during
Old West Days.
Another choice we have every year is popcorn sales through the
council. Occasionally someone will approach us with another
opportunity we are able to take advantage of if we have enough
parent support.
What we need in the way of parent
support for fundraisers is a parent to oversee the ordering
of supplies and preparations ahead of time for each fundraiser
and one parent each day of the fund raiser to be present. Otherwise
the Scouts themselves do the actual work.
Another fundraiser we have is the
Community Partners Program at Albertson's whereby we give you
a card to have scanned every time you purchase groceries there.
Albertson's then makes a donation to our troop quarterly.
We are always open to new ideas. Give us your support along
with your ideas.
