Troop 268

Jackson Elementary (sponsor)

Troop 268 was formed in October of 1991. Marge Ackerle was a Webelos leader in pack 268 at the time. When it came time for her webelos, including her son, to cross over into Boy Scouts, she did not find a troop she was pleased with. We had an excellent Cubmaster at the time in Pack 268 and a strong committee. Marge asked our cubmaster, Dick McDowell to start troop 268. He was the principal of the Rendezvous Campus. He asked the school district to sponsor us and stated that he would not do this without a strong commitment from a few key committee members.

Six months after chartering, Scott, the SPL found his life too busy to continue in scouting. Craig Kirkpatrick was in Troop 67 at the time with several of his friends that he crossed over from cub scouts with. He enjoyed Troop 67 and got a good start in scouting there, but he agreed to come over to Troop 268 and be Senior Patrol Leader since all our scouts were still working on tenderfoot.

Troop 268 quickly became a very active troop. We camped every month and were active in all the district activities. We planned and helped host several of the klondikes, first aid meets, fall camporees and one district merit badge day.

First trip to Sea Base - 1997

 

Scott McDowell was an Eagle Scout when the troop started. Craig
Kirkpatrick, Nick Shidner, Pedar Enger, and Evan Hudson all attained Eagle.
